It requires a tremendous amount of emotional control to play professional poker. It's not enough to know how to play well, you have to play well, not some of the time, not most of the time but all of the time. This is especially true in no limit, where one mistake can cost you your entire stack, but it is also crucial in limit. If you are the type of player who is liable to tilt after losing with AA or suffering a bad beat - and if you cannot control this tilt, or at least avoid it by leaving the table, you should not be a professional poker player.
The biggest sign of being on tilt is recognizing you are on tilt but refusing to quit playing. If you do not quit every time you begin to tilt, you will never make it as a professional poker player. It's not enough to quit sometimes, or to quit after tilting for a while. Bringing your A game to the table not once every so often or even most of the time but rather every single time is really the only way you can win in the long run. If there was no rake then it might be ok to tilt once and a while - although obviously it's better to never tilt - but when you factor in the fact that the casino is taking $100 an hour off the table you realize you really cannot afford to make even minor mistakes. Sometimes that is how tilt manifests itself - minor mistakes. Remember when your on tilt you are simply not playing your best game, and when your not playing your best game you are throwing money away.
