There are those that say that Texas Hold’em Poker is the easiest variant of poker to learn and without a doubt it is the most popular form as well. Texas Hold’em can be seen played for prizepools as large a 10 million dollars at the World Series of Poker but a beginner will have to practice a lot before even thinking of trying it out in that setting. The learning of the game goes fast but becoming skilled takes many rounds and a beginner is smart to start out with a free version before betting any real money.
A 52 cards deck is used for Texas Hold’em and a dealer will shuffle them and hand out two cards to each player which are placed face down. Players can call, raise or fold but at this stage most will stay in and make their bets. After the necessary bets have been made the dealer will burn one card to prevent cheating and then turn up three cards for all to see and use. These three cards go under the name of the Flop and they are followed by more bets.
The dealer will burn yet another card and then place another card face up for all players to use and this is called the Turn. This is followed by more betting, another burnt card and then the dealer places the card, face up, on the table which is called the River. After the last betting round it is time for the so called Showdown where all players will reveal their hands. The one that manages to build the best hand of five out of their original two cards and the five open cards available on the table will win the game.
When playing Texas Hold’em with money a player should make sure to understand the betting structure of the game well and understand that this can differ depending on where he is playing the game. When an Ante is placed is means that all players will contribute to the original money pot so that the game can get started. Sometimes only two players will make the initial bet and when this is the case it is referred to as posting the blinds.
After the dealer has dealt everyone their two individual cards everyone makes a bet which is called the pre-Flop as it comes before the action called the Flop. How big this bet is again depends on where the specific Texas Hold’em is played and should be verified before starting the game. The Flop, the Turn and the River are all followed by bets that are influenced by what hand the player sees that he can form with the revealed cards on the table. If there are two winners they often get to share the pot.
A beginner should try and find a game with fewer players as this makes the chance of getting a good hand greater. When deciding which limit to play at a player should look at both how much money he has and his skill level. With a larger bankroll you can afford to play higher limit games, although if your skill level is low it is not advised to do this. Playing the game a lot will teach a player a lot of the other participant’s playing patterns which will also be a great source of information for the use of strategy.
