Based on their hands players can choose to check, call, fold or raise and then the game continues to what is called the Turn. Before the dealer places the fourth community card on the table called the Turn he burns one card off the top of the pile. This is repeated in the last and fifth deal of the card called the River. After the last card has been placed on the table all players still in the game makes their final bets and then it is time for Showdown. In the Showdown players use two of their hidden cards and three from the common ones to form a hand of five. The player with the best combination wins the money in the pot.

In Omaha poker the game starts with two blinds. One of them is called the Small Blind and is placed by the player seated to the left of the dealer and the other is called the Big Blind and is placed by the player seated to the left of the player that made the small blind. The small blind is usually equal to half of the minimum bet and the big blind is at least the minimum bet. The first round of bets is started by the player that sits to left of the big blind and this player can choose to bet, fold or raise. The second round of betting is started by the player sitting to the left of the dealer and this is the same in the third round.

Basic Omaha Poker Strategy

Since every player is dealt four cards Omaha poker presents more possibilities of combinations from the very start than what Texas Hold’em poker does. It is therefore crucial to understand the combinations of cards and how to assess which ones to go for. One advice is to try and play a few hands from the start. It is also important to know when to fold. If the four initial cards are very weak it is better to fold than to risk the loss of a lot of money.
